Most Nigerians do not log into Remita regularly. They arrive on the platform when a deadline forces them there — a JAMB fee due, a government levy overdue, a payroll cycle approaching — and then discover that the login details they set up months ago no longer work.
If that is you right now, this guide fixes it.
It covers every Remita login problem encountered by Nigerian users on both the web portal (remita.net) and the mobile app — wrong password, forgotten email, locked account, unverified registration, browser issues, and corporate account access problems. Each problem has its own section. Find yours and go straight to the fix.
One important point before we begin: if you are trying to pay a government fee, generate an RRR, or confirm a transaction, you do not need to log in at all. Remita allows guest access for all one-off payments. You only need a Remita login if you have a registered account and want to access your dashboard, transaction history, or business tools. If you arrived here looking for how to pay without logging in, see our guide: [What Is Remita.net? How to Use the Remita Web Portal in Nigeria.] — internal link
How to Login to Remita
Before troubleshooting problems, here is the correct standard login process for both platforms.
Logging Into Remita.net (Web Portal)
Step 1 — Open any browser and go to www.remita.net.
Step 2 — Click “Login” at the top right corner of the homepage.
Step 3 — You are redirected to login.remita.net. Click the Email field and enter your registered email address. Click the Password field and enter your password.
Step 4 — Click Sign In.
Step 5 — If multi-factor authentication is enabled on your account — standard for corporate and government accounts — enter the OTP sent to your registered phone number or email when prompted.
Your dashboard loads immediately after successful authentication, showing your transaction history, linked bank accounts, and available tools depending on your account type.
Logging Into the Remita Mobile App
Step 1 — Open the Remita app on your Android or iOS device.
Step 2 — On the welcome screen, tap “Sign In” or “Login.”
Step 3 — Enter the same email address and password you use on the web portal — your Remita credentials are the same across both platforms.
Step 4 — Tap Sign In and authenticate with OTP if prompted.
Step 5 — Your app dashboard loads with your transaction history, payment shortcuts, and account tools.
Both platforms use the same account credentials. If your login works on the web but not the app, or vice versa, the issue is platform-specific — not a credentials problem. Platform-specific fixes are covered below.
Problem 1: Wrong Password — “Invalid Credentials” Error
This is the most common Remita login problem. The portal displays an “Invalid credentials” or “Incorrect email or password” error when you attempt to sign in.
Why this happens: Remita passwords are case-sensitive. A password created as “Lagos2024!” will not be accepted as “lagos2024!” or “LAGOS2024!”. Caps Lock being on is the single most common cause of this error on desktop. On mobile, auto-capitalisation of the first character in the password field triggers the same problem.
Fix — if you remember your password but it is not working:
- Check that Caps Lock is off on desktop
- On mobile, ensure your keyboard has not auto-capitalised the first letter of your password
- Try typing the password slowly character by character rather than relying on autofill
- Clear your browser’s autofill for remita.net — stored autofill passwords sometimes save outdated credentials and overwrite what you type manually
Fix — if you have forgotten your password:
Step 1 — Go to login.remita.net and click “Forgot Password” below the sign-in button.
Step 2 — Enter the email address registered to your Remita account and click Submit.
Step 3 — Check your inbox for a password reset email from Remita. If it does not arrive within five minutes, check your spam and junk folders — Remita reset emails are frequently filtered by Nigerian email providers.
Step 4 — Click the reset link in the email. You will be taken to a page to create a new password.
Step 5 — Create a new password that is at least eight characters and includes a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and a special character. Remita enforces password complexity requirements.
Step 6 — Return to login.remita.net and sign in with your email and the new password.
Important: The Remita password recovery portal allows you to reset your password by confirming your account details. If you receive a message saying the service is currently unavailable during the reset process, try again at a different time — the password reset service occasionally undergoes scheduled maintenance.
Problem 2: Forgotten Email Address
You remember your password but cannot recall which email address you registered with. This is more common than it sounds — many Nigerians have multiple email accounts and register different platforms with different addresses.
Fix:
Option 1 — Search your email inboxes. Search for “Remita” or “SystemSpecs” or “remita.net” across all your email accounts. Your registration confirmation email, first payment receipt, or any Remita notification will show the address your account is registered to.
Option 2 — Try your most commonly used email addresses. On the login page, try each email address you regularly use. Remita does not lock accounts for entering incorrect email addresses — only for multiple incorrect password attempts on a valid account.
Option 3 — Contact Remita support. If you cannot identify your registered email through either of the above methods, contact Remita support at support@remita.net or call 0700-7877678. Provide your BVN, phone number, and full name — Remita can locate your account using these identity details and confirm the email address on file, after which you can proceed with a password reset.
Problem 3: Account Locked After Multiple Failed Attempts
Remita’s security system locks accounts after several consecutive failed login attempts within a short window. This is a fraud prevention mechanism, not a permanent ban.
What you will see: A message stating your account has been locked, access is restricted, or too many login attempts have been made.
Fix:
Step 1 — Do not continue attempting to log in — additional failed attempts will not unlock the account and may extend the lockout period.
Step 2 — Wait 15 to 30 minutes. Remita has a number of security measures in place to prevent fraud and protect your personal and financial information — the lockout timer is one of them and typically resets automatically after a short waiting period.
Step 3 — After waiting, attempt login again using the correct credentials. If you are unsure of your password, use the Forgot Password process before your next attempt rather than guessing.
Step 4 — If the account remains locked after waiting, contact Remita support directly at support@remita.net. State that your account has been locked, provide your registered email address and BVN for identity verification, and request an account unlock. Support typically responds within one to two business days.
Preventing future lockouts: Once your account is accessible again, update your password to something memorable that you can type correctly on the first attempt. Store it in a password manager rather than relying on browser autofill or memory alone.
Problem 4: Email Not Verified — Account Created but Login Not Working
You registered on remita.net, received no errors during registration, but the system does not recognise your login credentials. This typically means your email address was not verified after registration.
Why this happens: Remita requires email verification as part of the registration process. If you did not click the verification link in the email sent to you after registration, your account exists in the system but is not activated — and login will fail.
Fix:
Step 1 — Check the inbox of the email address you registered with for a Remita verification email. Subject lines typically include “Verify your email” or “Activate your Remita account.” Check spam and junk folders.
Step 2 — Click the verification link in the email. If the link has expired — verification links typically remain valid for 24 to 48 hours — proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 — Go to login.remita.net and click “Forgot Password.” Enter your registered email and request a reset link. Completing the password reset process simultaneously activates an unverified account in most cases.
Step 4 — If neither approach works, register again with the same email address. The system may allow re-registration if your original account was never fully activated. If the system says the email is already registered, contact Remita support to clear the pending unverified account so you can complete a clean registration.
Problem 5: Remita Login Not Working on Mobile App
You can log in on the web portal but not the mobile app, or the app crashes or freezes at the login screen.
Fix — App version outdated:
Check your app store for a Remita update. An outdated app version is the most common cause of login failures specific to mobile — the app’s authentication flow may be incompatible with the current server version.
Fix — App cache corrupted:
On Android: go to Settings → Apps → Remita → Storage → Clear Cache. Do not clear Data unless you want to remove all saved preferences. Reopen the app and try logging in.
On iOS: delete and reinstall the Remita app. iOS does not provide a direct cache-clearing option for individual apps.
Fix — OTP not arriving for app login:
If the app requires OTP authentication and your OTP is not arriving, check that your registered phone number is active and receiving SMS. If your number has changed since registration, you cannot receive the OTP — log into the web portal first and update your phone number in account settings, then return to the app login.
Fix — App login screen freezing:
Force-close the app and reopen. If the freeze persists, check your internet connection — the Remita app requires a stable data or Wi-Fi connection for the login authentication process. A weak or intermittent connection causes the authentication screen to hang without displaying an error.
Problem 6: Corporate or Government Account Login Issues
Remita corporate accounts — used by businesses for payroll, by government agencies for TSA collections, and by institutions for revenue management — have a different login architecture from individual accounts and a distinct set of access problems.
Authorised signatory changes: If the staff member who created and managed the Remita corporate account has left the organisation, and access credentials were not handed over, the account may be inaccessible. This requires a formal request to Remita with company documentation — CAC certificate, board resolution authorising the new signatory, and identity verification of the new account manager.
Multi-user access and permissions: Corporate accounts support multiple users with different permission levels. If a user reports being unable to log in to a corporate account they previously accessed, the account administrator may have modified their access level or deactivated their user profile. The administrator should check the user management section of the corporate dashboard before contacting support.
Token and multi-factor authentication for high-value accounts: Some high-value corporate and government accounts require hardware token authentication in addition to password entry. If your token device is lost, expired, or malfunctioning, contact Remita support for a token reset — this cannot be self-served and requires identity verification.
Do You Actually Need a Remita Account?
A question worth asking before spending more time on login troubleshooting.
The majority of individual Remita users — those paying JAMB fees, NYSC levies, university fees, tax obligations, and government charges — do not need a Remita account to complete their payments. All one-off government payments can be made as a guest on remita.net without logging in.
You need a registered Remita account only if you want to:
- View your full transaction history across multiple payments
- Process payroll or manage vendor payments as a business
- Collect revenue through Remita as an institution
- Set up recurring payments or direct debit mandates
- Manage multiple bank accounts on a single dashboard
If none of these apply to you, skip the login problem entirely. Go to www.remita.net, enter your RRR or select your biller, and complete your payment as a guest. It works exactly the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I login to Remita? Go to www.remita.net and click Login at the top right. On the login page at login.remita.net, enter your registered email address and password, then click Sign In. If multi-factor authentication is enabled, enter the OTP sent to your phone. The same credentials work on both the web portal and the mobile app.
Why is my Remita login not working? The most common reasons are: incorrect password — Remita passwords are case-sensitive; wrong email address — try the other email accounts you regularly use; account locked after multiple failed attempts — wait 15 to 30 minutes before retrying; unverified registration — check your inbox for a Remita verification email you may not have clicked; or an outdated mobile app — update the app from your app store.
How do I reset my Remita password? Go to login.remita.net, click Forgot Password, enter your registered email address, and submit. Check your inbox for a password reset link from Remita — also check your spam folder. Click the link, create a new password meeting Remita’s complexity requirements, and return to the login page to sign in with the updated credentials.
Can I use Remita without logging in? Yes. All one-off payments, RRR generation, payment confirmation, and receipt downloads on remita.net work as guest functions without a registered account or login. An account is only needed for transaction history management, payroll and business tools, and recurring payment setup.
My Remita account is locked — what do I do? Stop attempting to log in. Wait 15 to 30 minutes for the automatic lockout timer to reset. Then attempt login again with the correct credentials. If still locked, contact Remita support at support@remita.net or 0700-7877678 with your registered email and BVN to request a manual account unlock.
How do I login to the Remita mobile app? Open the Remita app, tap Sign In, enter the same email and password you use on the web portal, and tap Login. If the app is not accepting valid credentials, check for an app update in your app store. If the login screen freezes, clear the app cache on Android or reinstall on iOS.
What do I do if I no longer have access to my registered email? Contact Remita support at support@remita.net or 0700-7877678. Provide your BVN, full name, and phone number for identity verification. Remita can update your registered email address after verifying your identity through alternative documentation.
