FMDQ Group Plc is a Nigerian financial-market infrastructure group that provides trading, clearing, settlement, depository, risk-management, market-data, and information services across the debt-capital, foreign-exchange, derivatives, and selected equity markets. Headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos, the group plays an important role in organising and supporting Nigeria’s fixed-income and currency markets.
The organisation began as FMDQ OTC Plc, which was incorporated on 6 January 2011. It was registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission in November 2012 as an over-the-counter securities exchange and self-regulatory organisation, and commenced operations on 1 January 2013. It was formally launched in November 2013. These dates distinguish the group’s incorporation and regulatory registration from the start of its operating activities.
FMDQ was created to improve the organisation, transparency, and efficiency of Nigeria’s over-the-counter financial markets. Its original market focus included government bonds, treasury bills, commercial papers, foreign-exchange transactions, and other fixed-income instruments. By providing formal market rules, trading infrastructure, reporting systems, reference rates, and valuation methodologies, the institution helped improve the quality and availability of market information for investors, issuers, regulators, and other participants.
FMDQ Exchange is the group’s securities-exchange subsidiary. It provides listing, quotation, trading, market-oversight, and data services across fixed-income, foreign-exchange, and derivatives markets. As a Securities and Exchange Commission-licensed self-regulatory organisation, FMDQ Exchange develops and enforces market rules, supervises its members, and promotes fair, orderly, and transparent trading practices.
FMDQ Clear Limited provides clearing and central-counterparty services. Its role is to help manage counterparty and settlement risks arising from eligible financial-market transactions. Through clearing, collateral management, risk-management, and related services, the subsidiary supports the safe and efficient completion of trades executed on the group’s markets.
FMDQ Depository Limited provides securities-depository and settlement services. It safeguards financial-market assets and helps facilitate the settlement of capital-market transactions. Together with FMDQ Exchange and FMDQ Clear, the depository forms part of the group’s vertically integrated infrastructure, connecting trading, clearing, and settlement functions within one broader market system.
The group also includes FMDQ Private Markets Limited and iQx Consult Limited. These businesses extend the group’s activities into private-market infrastructure, consulting, market intelligence, technology, data, and information services. FMDQ’s wider structure is therefore not limited to operating a trading platform; it supports several stages of the financial-market transaction cycle.
FMDQ Group is headquartered at Exchange Place, 35 Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. It operates as a Securities and Exchange Commission-registered capital-market holding company, while FMDQ Exchange separately performs its self-regulatory and market-oversight functions under SEC licensing. The group’s vertically integrated model has positioned it as one of Africa’s prominent financial-market infrastructure institutions.
