NPF Microfinance Bank Plc is a Nigerian microfinance institution established to provide banking and financial services to members of the Nigeria Police community and the wider public. The bank was incorporated on 19 May 1993 as a private limited-liability company and obtained a provisional Community Bank licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria on 12 July of the same year. It commenced operations on 20 August 1993 at Obalende, Lagos
The institution was originally known as NPF Community Bank Limited and was created to serve serving and retired officers and members of the Nigeria Police Force, their dependants, associated institutions, and other members of the public. It later adopted the name NPF Microfinance Bank as Nigeria’s regulatory framework evolved from the community-banking model to the current microfinance-banking structure.
NPF Microfinance Bank provides retail banking, deposit mobilisation, loans, advances, and other permitted financial services. Its products are designed for individuals, low-income households, microenterprises, small businesses, salary earners, and members of the police and security-services community. These services include savings accounts, current accounts, term deposits, consumer loans, business loans, and other credit facilities.
Although its original customer base was closely linked to the Nigeria Police Force, the bank’s activities have expanded beyond that constituency. It now serves members of the general public and provides financing to micro and small enterprises. This broader customer base enables the institution to participate in Nigeria’s financial-inclusion agenda by extending formal banking services to people and businesses that may not meet the requirements of larger commercial banks.
NPF Microfinance Bank has a distinctive ownership and market identity within Nigeria’s microfinance sector. It is associated with the Nigerian Police Co-operative Society and retains a strong institutional relationship with the police community. This connection provides the bank with an established customer network among serving and retired police personnel, as well as their families and affiliated organisations.
The bank is also notable for being publicly listed. Its shares were listed on the Nigerian Exchange on 1 December 2010 under the ticker symbol NPFMCRFBK. The listing gives the institution access to the capital market and requires it to meet the disclosure and reporting obligations applicable to publicly quoted companies. This makes NPF Microfinance Bank different from many other Nigerian microfinance banks, which remain privately held.
Contrary to some descriptions that identify its headquarters as Garki, Abuja, current Nigerian Exchange records list the company’s address as Aliyu Atta House, 1 Ikoyi Road, Obalende, Lagos. The bank may maintain operations or institutional links in Abuja, but Lagos is the location identified in its official exchange profile.
