FirstTrust Mortgage Bank Plc is a Nigerian Primary Mortgage Bank that provides mortgage, housing-finance, savings, and real-estate financial services to individuals and corporate customers. The institution has its origins in Partnership Savings & Loans Limited, which was incorporated on 26 May 1992 and received a licence to conduct mortgage-banking business on 31 December 1993. It therefore has a longer operating history than the current FirstTrust name suggests.
The present institution emerged from the merger of First Mortgages Limited and TrustBond Mortgage Bank Plc in 2019. The combination created a larger mortgage-banking business with a national licence and strengthened its capacity to provide housing-finance products to customers in different parts of Nigeria. The bank was formerly known as TrustBond Mortgage Bank Plc before adopting the FirstTrust Mortgage Bank name.
FirstTrust’s principal business is the provision of mortgage-banking services to individual and corporate customers. Its products include home-purchase mortgages, construction and home-improvement loans, property-finance solutions, savings products, and other real-estate-related services. Through these offerings, the bank helps eligible customers finance the acquisition, construction, renovation, or improvement of residential property.
As a Primary Mortgage Bank, FirstTrust operates within Nigeria’s specialised housing-finance system. PMBs mobilise savings and other deposits and use these funds to provide mortgage loans and related housing-finance facilities. Eligible PMBs may also participate in the National Housing Fund programme administered by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. Under the scheme, qualified contributors can access mortgage loans through accredited PMBs for purposes such as buying, building, improving, or renovating a home.
FirstTrust has maintained a national mortgage-banking licence and operates from its head office in Lagos, with an additional business office in Abuja. Its registered and principal office is located at 124 Awolowo Road, South-West Ikoyi, Lagos. The bank is listed among Nigeria’s licensed and eligible Primary Mortgage Banks, reflecting its participation in the formal mortgage-finance sector.
The bank operates in a housing market characterised by high property costs, limited mortgage penetration, rising construction expenses, and significant demand for affordable housing. These conditions make mortgage finance important for households that cannot purchase homes entirely from personal savings. FirstTrust’s business is therefore focused on helping customers access structured housing finance while building savings and investment relationships connected to real estate.
Through its long operating history, merger experience, national licence, and focus on mortgage and real-estate finance, FirstTrust Mortgage Bank remains one of the established participants in Nigeria’s Primary Mortgage Bank segment. Its services are directed primarily at expanding access to formal home finance for individuals, families, businesses, and property developers.
